【サンプル限定公開】APS受験まで（３）：b. Statement of Purpose（志望理由書）について
前回（a. English Proficiency Test Scores Report（TOEFL/IELTS）について）に引き続き、APS受験時に必要な書類についてご紹介します。今回はこちら。
b. Statement of Purpose（志望理由書）
大学によっては「Personal Statement」と言ったり、「Statement of Intent」、さらにはと「Letter of Motivation」と言ったりもします。よく略称で、「Statement of Purpose」は「SoP」、「Personal Statement」は「PS」と言われます。
SoPとPSの違いについて、検索すればいろいろと解説されていますので、関心のある方はぜひ一度調べてみてください（ただ、一般的にどこの大学でも必ず何を書くかについて予め指示がされていますので、そちらの指示を第一優先にして作成してください）。
国連平和大学のサイトを確認しますと、APSでは、
●Why have you decided to apply to this programme?
（なぜAPSに応募するのか？）
●What are your expectations from this programme?
（APSに何を期待しているのか？）
●What are your career plans after completing this programme?
（APS修了後のキャリアプランは？）
●What type of work experience, life experience, previous studies, and multicultural exchanges would contribute to your APS academic experience?
（これまでのどんな経験がAPSに生かされるのか？）
●What personal qualities, abilities, or special skills do you have that would contribute to this programme?
（どんなスキル、資質がAPSに生かせるのか？）
●Do you have any constraints or difficulties that may inhibit your participation and performance in the APS programme?
（APSへの参加にあたって何か問題になりそうなものがあるか？）
●How specifically will the APS programme contribute to your future career goal?
（APSが将来のキャリアにどのように具体的に生かされるのか？）
という７つの質問に答えるよう指示されています。また、文字数は他の大学と同様1,000字以上となっています。
以下、私個人の場合に限定してお話ししますと、分量は上記の要件を大幅に下回ってはしまいますが、A4一枚で収めるべくタイトル名前含めて500字としました。その分上記の質問に簡潔に答えるべく三段落構成とし、
第一段落（約200字）
「I am applying to the Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship (APS) programme for the MA in （先行したいコース名）of the University for Peace to pursue research（研究したい内容）...」との一文から始め、
・APSで研究したい内容
・（その研究内容を選んだ理由として）将来の目標（具体的な機関＆ポスト名に触れる）
・将来の目標を達成するために獲得すべき能力
・その能力を獲得するためにAPSでの経験が必要であること
を述べました。次の第二段落では、
第二段落（約200字）
「I believe that my background would be a definite asset to the APS programme.」との一文から始め、
・青年海外協力隊としてどんな活動をしたか（推薦者との関係性に言及）
・学生時代にどんな研究をしたか（推薦者との関係性に言及）
・これらの経験、スキル、資質は必ずAPSでも活かされる
とまとめ、
第三段落（約100字）
・APSについて自身が期待している点
・APS入学に対する熱意
に触れて完成としました。上記の流れの中で「●Do you have any constraints or difficulties that may inhibit your participation and performance in the APS programme?（APSへの参加にあたって何か問題になりそうなものがあるか？）」以外の質問は全てカバーしました。
